LAUGHTER YOGA with Chandanna Denzayll. January 9, 2021. 5:30-6:30 p.m. PST
What is it? Laughter Yoga is the practice of intentional laughter, inviting a feeling of warmth, light and ease into the body. By using our natural ability to choose to laugh whenever we want to, every cell can enjoy more oxygen and endorphins.
Why do it? Laughter Yoga promotes a positive outlook and enhances our mood, which builds resilience to negative stress or depression.
How to do it? While remaining seated, we participate in playful little hand gestures, and some light stretches, that help to stimulate spontaneous bouts of laughter with each other. We breathe more fully, and our body gets tuned in to joy. That triggers a message to our brain to switch on feel-good chemicals that allow the body to relax.
About the Facilitator: Chandanna Denzayll
Although Chandanna was born in South Africa, later in life, she and her husband decided to retire in South East Asia. Out of a longing to cultivate caring connections with others and serve her local community, Chandanna was inspired to become a teacher of Laughter Yoga in 2014.
She trained in India, with the great Dr. Madan Kataria, Founder of the Laughter Yoga movement, which has at its core the quest to bring peace and happiness to all the peoples of this beautiful planet.
Laughter Yoga is a unique concept that allows participants to laugh without using comedy or jokes, and it can be practiced at any time, by everyone. She began by running a free Laughter Social Club and as she developed her expertise, Chandanna was lead to share her skills at various “special needs” groups. Some of her most lively and memorable gatherings have been with members of the Malaysian Association for the Blind, and sharing playful activities with Parkinson’s patients.
For over two years, she found immense personal fulfillment facilitating dynamic Laughter Yoga workshops for hospital staff, and guiding a weekly ‘Joyful Living’ Support Group, for clients of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia.
Having since moved to a rural area of Chiangmai, Northern Thailand, Chandanna has been reaching out to others via the internet during this time of travel restrictions.
Since she knows how Laughter Yoga can assist people who are facing severe challenges to effectively cope with stress, and live with a greater sense of ease and optimism, she is delighted for this opportunity to offer you a taste of how Laughter Yoga can also do this for YOU.
